HOWZAT Great Newsome Line & Length makes a century
Howzat Great Newsome Line and Length Golden Summer Ale gave us our first century of emptied casks. Thanks to all our wonderful customers who have enabled us to reach a 100 so quickly and how appropriate that it is a summer ale from one our local brewers after the weather we have been blessed with this first 2 months. Thanks again from Ian and the crew.

A great day has arrived.
With tears in my eyes I can confirm that we now have pork pies at Chequers. I realise that they have been slow in arriving but it has been a difficult decision. We have Beautiful pies from Huddersfield including pork, pork and chilli jam, figit pie and pork and blackpudding with others to come. Pies will be served with either mustard or pickle so a pie and a pint is now on offer. Cheers Ian

Micropub invaded by Newcastle Sword Men
We had a great day Saturday lots of regulars and visitors alike but the visit from The Sallyport Rapper Dancers was a real highlight. If you ever want to be invaded by guys brandishing swords these are the ones you want. Chequers is not the largest of venues but they certainly made the most of it.

We are open!
The doors of Chequers Micropub Pub finally opened yesterday at 1.30 pm and we had a great session with most seats taken through to 11.00 pm. Plenty of new friends were made and the atmosphere was terrific. Thanks to all who made the first day so memorable including the visitors to Beverley from Bristol and Scotland. All 5 Ales took a hammering and all were well received. We will be open for a lunchtime session at 12.00 today but the Dark Star Hophead and Thornbridge Jaipur might not last too long. Cheers

Today is the Day
Still got plenty to do this morning but we will be open today.
Please be gentle with us it is only a small venue and and a lot of new ropes to learn. Look forward to seeing you all over the next couple of weeks. The bar areas are all looking good but the first floor still needs work. The call for ale won through and the toilet tiling and flooring will have to wait. Cheers

Off Our Heads
Sorry for the lack of information over the last few days but we have been putting in long hours to try to get open this coming weekend. The ground floor is almost complete but the first floor especially the toilets still require plenty of work.
The cellar cabinet is working but we can't put ale in as the chiller unit will only work at +5 to -5 when the casks want to be 9 or 10. We hope that can be resolved today and Ale orders can be placed.
Cheers

Python, Pumps + Fire Alarm
Busy day yesterday with 2 important visitors with the bar being fitted with its pumps, valves and python and Chequers now looks like a pump. The fire protection system was fitted and tested and work progressed with the joinery. We are working on the cellar today so we can get the first stock in by the weekend. We still have lots of work to do on the toilets and kitchen but we are pushing on to our opening date. Cheers

Proposed Opening Hours
Hi just put up proposed initial opening hours. These will be extended to include more lunchtimes and afternoons and the closing times on an evening will be decided partly by the demands of our wonderful customers and of course the hours of our licence. Cheers

A Big Week
Well we didn't make the Bank Holiday dead line but plenty of progress has been made and down stairs is looking good. The flooring is down electrics and plumbing largely complete with only final touches oh and the minor detail of building the bar!! The first floor however still has plenty of work but we are pushing on as fast as possible. I. Will put more pics up this weekend. Light is at the end of the tunnel. Thanks to the team. Cheers

All hands on deck
It is the final big push with lots still to do. Chiller unit for the cellar goes in today, flooring starts Wednesday and a big team in Monday & Tuesday. It's hard work but were still enjoying it. Can't wait for that first pint. Cheers

Light at the end of the tunnel
Another week of hard graft by all concerned and real progress has been made. There is light at the end of this very long tunnel. The build is taking longer than expected, as has every aspect of this project but we are really pleased with the results so far.
Plastering should be completed today and the dust cleaning, painting, staining and joinery can commence. More pics have been added to the website to bring you up to date. http://chequersmicropub.co.uk/3.html
We have put together a quick advert for the forthcoming Camra Pub Mirror with no opening date but the Blog will advise you when that long anticipted day arrives.

Munching Insects!!
After a well deserved break at the weekend and the disturbing news that the origional timbers in the roof had been visited by lots of visiting munching insects we are still pushing forward.
The timbers were retreated yesterday and may need additional support but the project moves on plastering downstairs, stud walls, electrics and plumbing upstairs. Today should see the completion of the steelwork for the stillage and hoist and the arrival of the balance of the sanitary ware.
The first pint draws nearer.
Cheers

Congrats To Gregg and Julie at The Snug Carnforth, this excellent Micropub is officially the best pub in Lunesdale because the guys at their local Camra branch say so and they are having their presentation on Tuesday 9th April.
Just added a map I will set up a link to a larger version and add a slide show of some before pics.

We could be on our way!
Well today was another typical roller coaster. I found out that we have been granted our change of use but subject to conditions which will be advised by letter. I just have to believe that it's nothing too onerous. Amendments to the license are in, building control have my application and have asked for confirmation on several points to which I have just emailed my response. So we are on our way, now the hard work starts. Who knows we may be open for Easter!

Struggling on
Happy New Year
The year has started as the old one finished still waiting for a date for the change of use.
Technical issues relating to planning consent from the 1980's are the current problem.
Just got to be patient I guess!
I have picked up paneling for a bar front and have been working on plan B,C and D regarding the location Of the casks if my preferred cellar plans are blocked.
We Will get there but early March looks more realistic.
Cheers mildorbitter
